The Culprit:
Often a sudden rise in water bills can be the result of a leakage issue. Noticed a lovely green patch of grass in the middle of your dry lawn? We could almost guarantee it’s not the weather! Staying observant to small indications like this, can help you save your valuable money. Many people will overlook a leaking tap or shower, however unbeknown to home owners, your water bill definitely doesn’t overlook the leaks!
Your first step to controlling water usage and saving money on water bills, is to get your property inspected for leakage issues!
What if your property is free from plumbing & piping issues, but you still can’t keep the water bill down?
Saving money is all about controlling your usage!

The Bathroom:
Where everything goes down the drain! The bathroom is where the majority of water is consumed in Australian households. To save water usage and excess money on your bill, AJ’s recommends taking shorter showers. Yes, the good old three-minute shower rule is still a hit in our eyes.
We recommend you consider installing a low-flow shower head.
Limit your use of the basin tap. Don’t continue running the water while you brush your teeth or use razors. Try filling the basin with a small amount of water if you are frequently needing to turn the tap on and off. This small step will save you large amounts over time.
AJ’S highly recommend making use of your dual flush buttons for your toilet. Using half flush and full flush when appropriate. Contact us today, for more information regarding quotes and installation. A dual flush toilet is another appliance that saves you thousands of litres every year.
The Kitchen:
If you are needing small amounts of hot water, we recommend heating your kettle in contrast to waiting for your tap water to run hot. This is a simple tip from AJ’S which can save you wasting large amounts of precious water.
Only use your dishwasher when you have full loads; surprisingly, dishwashers use less water than hand washing when cleaning large amounts of dishes. But if you only have a small number of dirty dishes we recommend you hand wash them. Use your dishwasher on the lowest degree and shortest cycle, which still cleans effectively. Try to use your dish washer in ‘off-peak’ times and regularly clean out the filter to improve efficiency, saving you water and power.
Outside:
Re-use and recycle water where ever you can. Simple movements, such as recycling water from your household and reusing it on outdoors is highly economic.
We also recommend investing and installing rain water tanks and grey water systems if you use a large amount of water outdoors.
If you use sprinklers for watering purposes we suggest you set timers, so no sprinkler is forgotten! We also advise watering gardens late at night, where heat will not threaten to absorb your valued water.
Keep washing cars to a minimum and use a bucket for soapy water rather than constantly having the hose on.
